“So what is it in our boats that we love? Surely it can’t be the boat itself, a mere collection of bits & pieces put together anonymously by workmen in some factory or yard. Is it perhaps the spirit, some transference perhaps into the very fabric of the vessel - of the ideals, the hopes, the dreams, of the people who design & build the boats, or who have previously voyaged in them? Is this spirit then transferred in turn to us, by some process of osmosis? Is it this that we really love when we say we love a boat ?”
